One of United Way's four strategic impact areas is Youth Opportunity: helping young people realize their full potential from birth to graduation.
That commitment isn't just a statement — it drives the decisions we make about where we invest, who we partner with, and what kind of change we believe is possible here in Chautauqua County.
One of the most direct ways we accomplish impact in the area of Youth Opportunity is through our partnership with CASA of Chautauqua County (Court Appointed Special Advocates) — and this month, we want you to know more of our partnership with them.
CASA’s mission is both simple and powerful: to provide an independent voice in court for children who have experienced abuse or neglect, advocating for their best interests as they move toward safe, permanent homes.
Through a dedicated network of trained volunteers, CASA ensures that every child’s story is heard — helping inform decisions that can shape the course of their lives.
United Way's support helps make that work possible. Our partnership with CASA reflects something we believe deeply: that lasting change for children doesn't happen through any one organization acting alone. It happens when resources are aligned.
Under Executive Director Kathy Park's leadership, CASA continues to expand its network of volunteer advocates, strengthen community awareness, and ensure resources meet the needs of children across the county. The impact reaches far beyond courtrooms — it shows up in children's long-term stability, safety, and sense of belonging.
When you give to United Way, or when your employer runs a workplace campaign, this is part of what your investment makes possible. Not a handoff — a partnership. United Way brings together the resources, the relationships, and the strategic focus on Youth Opportunity. CASA brings the mission, the volunteers, and the daily, dedicated work of showing up for children who need an advocate.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and throughout Chautauqua County, you may notice pinwheels appearing outside local businesses, schools, and community spaces. These pinwheels are part of the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign — a national movement that turns awareness into action and supports local efforts to protect children and strengthen families.
Here in our community, that work is led in large part by CASA.
When you see a pinwheel this month, let it be a reminder of what that kind of partnership can do.
Together, we’re turning awareness into action — and creating brighter futures for children across Chautauqua County.
